Grindwick is a free-to-play 2D online action RPG where the grind is the point. Head into a dungeon, cut down monsters, collect loot, return to the Explorer's Guild, and prepare to do it again. Character growth and the search for better gear drive every trip.
ZERO QUESTS
Quests are not part of Grindwick's design. You can take simple monster-kill tasks for gold, but there is no story campaign or quest chain telling you where to go next. Choose a place to hunt and stay as long as you want. Expeditions cost gold to start, and their recommended levels are only suggestions. Push into a harder dungeon, or farm an easier one until your build is ready.
GROW STRONGER BY PLAYING
Switch between Melee, Magic, and Distance combat by changing weapons at the Guild. Each style has its own spells, but becoming skilled with a weapon takes time. Improve your combat skills by fighting, or train weapon skills at a practice dummy in town. Dummy training improves the weapon skill without increasing your character level. Spend points in the passive tree to shape the build you want to play.
HUNT FOR BETTER GEAR
Items vary in rarity and stats. Most of your progress comes from fighting monsters and finding the next piece of equipment worth keeping. Back at the Guild, dismantle unwanted gear into dust, refine it, craft a random item, or enchant equipment for better stats. The Auction Board lets you trade with other players. Pets offer small bonuses, and you can go fishing when you want a break from the dungeon. Then head out again.
PLAY ALONE OR TOGETHER
Meet other players in shared hubs, or enter an expedition alone. Parties of up to four get their own expedition instance. Loot found together goes into a shared Expedition Backpack, where any party member can take it.
PUSH YOUR BUILD
Bosses have their own dungeons. Void Trials offer a separate ranking challenge with no EXP, gold, or loot rewards. Death costs character EXP and combat skill progress. Taking on a harder fight has a price.
EARLY ACCESS
Grindwick is playable, but its balance is still being shaped. Gold income, item drops, boss fights, the interface, and bug fixes are my main focus. Boss mechanics are currently fairly simple, and I plan to make those encounters more varied and demanding before 1.0. Character progress will reset for the 1.0 release. Other resets may also be necessary as development continues.
I'm developing Grindwick on my own. I want the grind to feel worthwhile, and player feedback will help me get the details right.
