Every adventure is a new one
Roads Taken is a turn-based tactics game in the classic style — square fields, the weapon triangle, terrain and the order of your moves deciding every battle. But nobody wrote your adventure. Its story, its countries, its rulers and their war, the people who join you, their temper and their trade, and every battlefield are made the moment you begin, from a single seed. Your second adventure has nothing to do with your first.
Wren's story
Before your first seed, play the adventure written by hand: Wren, raised on the river barges and captain of a free company down to its last two swords, a river that is falling, and a war that is not what it seems. You choose who Wren is — trade, temper, face — and the story is written for any of them. It teaches the game as it goes, and it is the measure every generated story is held to.
Your company
Ten peoples and thirteen trades, each with its own way of fighting
At level 20, a path: master your trade, or take up a second one
Bonds that grow in battle and at the fire — fighting side by side, pledges, and children who join the company
A camp to build between battles: the forge, the shop, the laboratory where alchemists brew, the workshop, the training ground and more
You place your captain's points yourself; every choice of trade and path is yours
Infinity made to be shared
Every adventure has a seed you can read and give to a friend. They play the same world, the same company and the same enemies — and from the first battle, their choices take them somewhere else.
Four ways to play it
From Story to Ordeal, and choosing whether death is final. Every battle is tested before you see it, so a generated chapter is always winnable — and never by accident.
A painted miniature world
Pixel-art figures on a tilted, lit world in the HD-2D tradition: countries of snow, desert, marsh, eastern paddies, ash and fairy wood, through four seasons, by day and by night, with an orchestral score that follows the story's moods.
