hey i'm rior, a solo dev
pell is a tiny apprentice wizard. the star above his tower fell one night and his master went north to keep it warm, so pell stayed behind to fix the tower floor by floor until the star can go back up. you pick what he casts and he gets on with it while you get on with your day
it lives on your taskbar
the tower sits at the left or right edge of your screen in a window barely bigger than the tower. clicks around it go straight through to whatever's behind. it hides when you're in a fullscreen game or video and catches up after
the spell loop
pell casts the spells in his ring one after another and you can watch every single one. the ring grows from 3 slots to 8, there are 12 spells that level up as he uses them, and if he runs out of mana he just sips tea until it refills. nothing ever fails
six floors and a roof
the hearth, greenhouse, alembic room, library, roost and observatory. every repair changes the room you see and pell's hat grows a notch taller every floor
friends and visitors
a toad, a moth, a cat and an owl move in as the tower grows. eight neighbours come knocking, including a postwoman with bad knees and a goat that keeps getting stuck in fences. let them in and they leave trinkets you can decorate with
falling stars
a star falls every 25 to 40 minutes while the tower's open and pell always catches it. the sky follows your real clock, day and night
an ending
six chapters, about two weeks of having it open on your desktop. then pell performs the masterwork on the roof, and after the credits the tower keeps running if you want it to
quiet on purpose
there's a hush mode where pell puts on a nightcap, a calm pace setting and a pause button. sound only plays while you're looking at it. no keyboard hook, no data collection, no internet besides steam
my inspirations for making this game were rusty's retirement and other games that live at the edge of your screen
