Go down. Bring it back, or lose it.
Enter a room. The doors lock. Kill everything inside, take what drops, then choose your next door.
At the end of every floor, a boss guards the stair. Beat it and you make the choice the whole game is built on: one floor deeper, where everything is worth more, or the portal home while you still have what you found.
Everything you carry is at risk until you bank it in the city of Stonegate. Die, and it's gone. Bank it, and you keep it.
Build a new hero every run
Every run starts at level 1. You get a talent point at every level, and every boss you kill offers 3 boons to choose from. There are 130+ boons, and a book records every one you find.
When the run ends, the levels, talents and boons end with it. Your gear stays. Gear decides which dungeon you can survive. The run is what you build on top of it.
Fight bosses
The Stockade, the Deadworks, Oxenhold and the Barrows each lie under their own region, with their own enemies, bosses and loot. Boss attacks are telegraphed, so you can read them and move. Clear floor 10 and the next region opens.
Two classes, each with 14 abilities
Each class has 3 basic attacks that change how it plays, and 14 abilities to build from.
The Warrior builds Rage as he fights and spends it on abilities such as Charge, Ground Slam, Whirlwind and Execute.
The Mage builds Overload with every spell: Frost Nova, Fireball, Blizzard, Shatter. Fill the bar and she can't cast for 2 seconds.
A city to come home to
Stonegate has a vault for everything you bank, a counting house that pays full price for what you bring home, a forge, a trainer, an enchanter and a barber. The contract board lets you pay gold to make the enemies harder. The run then pays you something gold can't buy.
