One bolt of lightning, two lives
Song Bao made it out. Out of Shengdu, into the best university in Lion City, then into the best company — a cloud architect, on call, always.
One thunderstorm evening he stood on a lawn, waiting for overtime nobody would remember. The lightning came down.
He woke up as a chicken.
Adapted from real lives
This story was not invented. It was edited together from real ones — people who tested their way out of a small city, built a life somewhere foreign, and lay awake asking whether it had been worth it. We folded them into one person and called him Song Bao.
A language you can actually learn
Lion City is not a backdrop. You will be machine-gunned by a canteen auntie and confronted by a drink-stall grammar only locals understand. Two skippable language minigames:
- Shengdu Dialect Level 10 — every word card replays the original voice line from the story.
- Canteen Survival English — from "take away 咩" to Kopi O Kosong. Learn it, or you are not getting a drink.
Fully voiced, start to finish
Every line is spoken. The storyteller is not narration — he is a character in this thing, sighing and laughing on your behalf.
Four paths, four endings
Stay or go. Swallow it or turn around. One ending is hidden fairly well.
Drawn like a school textbook
Ink-wash cartoon throughout, in the register of the illustrations on page one of a Chinese primary school reader: clean lines, gentle colour, lots of empty space. 101 animated shots.
Respectful of your time
- About 30 minutes per route; roughly 70 minutes for all four endings
- Voice speed ×1.0 / ×1.2 / ×1.5 / ×2.0 / ×3.0, switchable any time
- Pause, and per-character voice toggles
