A shop left by your father
You're a university student, but your father's kıraathane is now yours, along with the ledger he kept in his own handwriting and the account on its last page.
You're about to raise the shutter for the first time since he did.
At the tea stove
You come in early in the morning. You turn on the lights, light the stove and put the first pot of tea on. Then you raise the shutter, open the door, and the customers start coming in.
Every customer sits down, places an order and starts to wait. You reach for an empty glass on the shelf and fill it at the stove. Those who run out of patience get up and leave, and they don't come back the next day.
Clearing the tables is your job too. Dirty glasses go to the counter, from there to the sink; and keep the floors clean. Nobody comes to a dirty shop.
The day ends, the accounts begin
In the evening you pull down the shutter and the day's summary comes up: what you sold today, what's left in the till, which bill is at the door. There's rent, electricity, water. If you're running low on tea, you pick up the phone and call the supplier. The goods arrive the next morning, so you have to think ahead.
Upgrades
If your finances recover, you can start improving the shop: a coffee machine changes the menu, cold drinks save the summer months, and new tables and a shop expansion mean more customers. When business grows, you won't be able to keep up alone, so you hire an apprentice.
There's a city outside the shop
The kıraathane isn't the only place in town. You get into the car your father left you, join the traffic and drive out of the neighbourhood. The weather changes, the seasons turn.
And you come home. Your mother and your little sibling are there, never knowing when you'll walk in.
The shortcut
There's a casino in the city. Roulette, blackjack, dice, slot machines, croupiers at the tables, and the bar is open.
You could hit the jackpot there in a single night.
Or you could leave the last of your money there too, and not even have it in you to open the shutter the next morning.
The creditors are waiting
Debt doesn't stop on its own. If there's no money when the payment is due, someone knocks on the door. Then the bailiffs come. The kıraathane came to you from your father. It can go from you just as easily.
