Level up your Berserkers and choose which attitudes to focus on. Create different builds for each party member.
Upgrade your Blacksmith with hard earned loot obtained from missions or from deadly fights in the arena.
Send your Vikings on missions takes time to complete, pushing your Vikings closer to retirement.
Train each Viking in different skills/abilities to ensure your team has synergy in combat. Attributes directly impact Skill power. You can only choose 5 skills per fighter, so choose carefully. Training new skills takes time. Each Viking only has a set amount of time he can fight for your clan's cause before he retires.
Recruit more Vikings to expand your empire more rapidly. Whiles some are training new skills, others can be on a mission to obtain valuable loot and others duking it out in the arena for glory and riches. Up to you to manage them effectively.
