For centuries, a colony of rats has been growing in the darkness beneath a grand capital, unnoticed by the people above. Thousands of rats, driven by a single desire: to reach the surface. They think as one and answer to a single will. Humanity's desperate resistance will not stop them. Soldiers and priests, alchemists and mechanical constructs, parasites, monsters, and even angels stand in their way. The rats will devour their flesh, claim the skulls of the fallen, and grow stronger.
I Am Plague is an incremental game with automatic combat and roguelite elements. Your horde fights using its mutations and abilities. The outcome depends on the build you bring into battle.
As you climb, choose one of three mutations on each floor, buy more in shops, and combine their effects to create devastating synergies.
Upgrade strength, attack speed, health, and defense. Boost critical hits, evasion, and health regeneration. Picking the same mutation again further strengthens your build.
How you reach the surface is up to you. At every fork, weigh the dangers against the potential rewards and choose your next move.
Your horde starts out weak. Your first run may end almost as soon as it begins. But death is part of growing stronger.
Back in your lair, spend the flesh and skulls collected in the fortress on the Tree of Flesh and Tree of Bones. Permanently boost your horde's base stats and unlock new mutations.
Newly unlocked mutations can appear in future runs. The further you progress, the more options you have to shape your build.
With each floor, the horde uncovers more of the fortress's secrets. Fragments of memories that are not its own. Voices from the abyss. Fear among the fortress's defenders.
The horde is destined to fulfill a prophecy humanity once kept from coming true. But postponing fate is not the same as escaping it.
The closer the horde comes to the truth, the harder it becomes to tell whether it will avert the apocalypse or unleash it.
The full game will feature:
200+ dungeon floors
50+ mutations across multiple rarity tiers
Permanent upgrades to your horde's base stats
New enemy types as you ascend
Shops, text-based events, and branching routes
Increasingly dangerous bosses
The higher you climb, the less the dungeon resembles the place where your journey began. And more and more people recognize the horde as something they thought had been destroyed centuries ago...
