About This Game

You lost everything. Now you have one year to build something that can change your life.

STORY DEV is a compact life-sim, visual novel, and indie game development sandbox about starting over, making games, building relationships, and trying to turn a tiny bedroom studio into something real.

After returning to your hometown with little more than an idea and a second chance, you decide to become an indie developer. The goal is simple: create successful games, grow your audience, survive financially, and prove yourself before the year is over.

Luckily, you won't have to do it completely alone.

Old friends, new partners, potential romances, and a colorful group of people gradually become part of your journey. Some will help with music, business, promotion, ideas, or simply remind you that there is more to life than staring at a monitor all night.

Build Games. Build a Life.

STORY DEV mixes narrative progression with a freeform DEV/OS sandbox, letting you step away from the story and manage your growing indie studio at your own pace.

Develop projects, improve your setup, spend money on marketing, build an audience, interact with the people around you, and actually play the games your character creates.

The experience is designed to be easy to pick up, relaxed, and rewarding without demanding dozens of hours from you. This is not a massive 100-hour management simulator. It is a focused, casual experience made for players who want an entertaining story, progression systems, romance, humor, and several different gameplay styles packed into one game.

Features

• Become an Indie Game Developer — Create games, improve their development progress, launch projects, attract followers, gain supporters, and grow your small studio.

• Manage Your Money — Balance studio funds, personal expenses, upgrades, marketing campaigns, gifts, and the occasional unexpected cost.

• Play the Games You Create — Your projects aren't just numbers on a menu. Several of them become playable games with completely different mechanics, including strategy battles, action-oriented sequences, management gameplay, and more.

• Multiple Gameplay Styles — STORY DEV deliberately jumps between genres, giving the experience the feeling of a collection of small games connected by one larger story.

• A Story Spanning One Year — Follow your character from a difficult restart to the possibility of professional success, with new opportunities and challenges appearing as the months pass.

• Three Main Romance Routes — Get closer to three different women, learn about their personalities, give gifts, go on dates, build affinity, and unlock new relationship scenes.

• Relationship Progression — Dates are tied to both your relationship progress and the main story, so relationships develop alongside your career instead of existing in a separate menu.

• Choices and Character Moments — Spend time with friends, collaborators, and love interests through visual-novel-style scenes with dialogue, narration, and choices.

• Develop Your Character — Improve personal attributes such as Intelligence, Strength, and Charm as your protagonist rebuilds both his career and his life.

• Upgrade Your Studio — Purchase equipment, software, lifestyle improvements, gifts, and marketing options through the in-game DevMart.

• Grow Your Audience — Followers, supporters, wishlists, and marketing become part of your progression as your fictional games slowly gain attention.

• Retro-Futuristic Presentation — Pixel-art-inspired interfaces, neon aesthetics, retro computer screens, anime-style character artwork, and a soundtrack built around the atmosphere of a small developer chasing a big dream.

• Designed for Casual Play — No giant grind, no need to memorize dozens of complicated systems, and no expectation that you dedicate weeks to finishing it. Play, progress, enjoy the characters, make some games, and have a good time.

More Than a Game Dev Simulator

STORY DEV is ultimately about the fantasy that makes so many people start creating games in the first place:

What if this one works?

What if the weird little project you made in your room actually finds an audience?

What if your friends believe in it?

What if someone notices?

And what if, after everything went wrong, making games becomes the thing that finally puts your life back together?

You will develop projects, watch numbers go up, make questionable financial decisions, chase wishlists, deal with deadlines, spend too much money on your setup, get distracted by romance, and somehow still try to ship the game.

Pretty accurate indie development, really.

Make games. Build relationships. Grow your audience. Survive the year.
