Statemakers is a turn-based political simulation where power is won with votes and kept with compromise. Lead your own party from polling on the edge of the threshold all the way to government, write laws article by article, negotiate coalitions and survive everything a term in office throws at you: scandals, protests, budget crises and votes of no confidence. Play solo against AI-controlled parties or together with friends in multiplayer via Steam.
Every state plays by its own rules
The political system is not a backdrop - it is part of the gameplay. The number of chambers and seats, the electoral system (proportional, majoritarian, mixed, preferential), thresholds, districts, how the head of state is chosen, vetoes, the constitutional court, the way a government is formed - all of it shapes how power is won and lost. A strategy that wins in one country may end in disaster in another. You can change every one of these settings yourself and build a state that works exactly the way you want.
The map is your battlefield
A detailed administrative map divided into regions. Track support in every corner of the country, fight for swing districts, defend your strongholds and strike at your rival's heartland. Election results, polls, protests and the consequences of your decisions play out right on the map.
Campaigns and elections
Plan your campaign on the timeline: rallies, grassroots canvassing, ads, negative campaigns and get-out-the-vote drives right before election day. Pick your slogan, make campaign pledges and make sure voters don't hold you to them too soon. Commission polls, give interviews to friendly outlets and step into televised debates where every comeback counts. Run in parliamentary and presidential elections and referendums - on your own, in an electoral alliance or behind a joint candidate.
Parliament and the law
Draft bills from hundreds of articles and tune the parameters of each one: from the minimum wage, through taxes, to the powers of public offices. Bundle bills into packages, amend your opponents' laws instead of tearing them down, attach conditions for when a law takes effect and decide whether a change goes into the constitution or ordinary law. Steer your bill through readings and votes in both chambers, whip your own caucus into line, and the missing votes... well, buy them from someone else. Every vote is a recorded roll call and stays in the history books.
Negotiations and government
After the election, the real game begins. Take your seat at the negotiating table, divide up the ministries, agree on a shared program and build a majority that can survive its first vote of no confidence. AI parties negotiate true to their character - some play hardball for cabinet seats, others fight for ideas. In government, manage the budget, build hospitals, highways and wind farms, keep public debt in check and maintain relations with other countries.
A party is its people
Every politician has their own views, stats, ambitions and biography. Build electoral lists, fill positions, manage your party's statute and finances: fundraisers, loans, membership dues and interest-group sponsors who always expect something in return. Politicians age and pass away, scandals break at the worst possible moment, and the courts may even rule on banning a party. Parties merge, split and strike deals behind closed doors.
Rivals that actually play the game
AI-controlled parties are not just scenery. Each one has its own personality and plans out its entire term: it picks flagship issues, writes its own bills, attacks rivals, forms coalitions, buys votes and files motions of no confidence the moment it calculates it has the numbers. Difficulty levels let you tailor the challenge to your experience.
A living world
The newspaper reports on what's happening in the country every day. Random events, disasters, economic crises, social protests and scandals demand a response, and social groups remember who stood by them. Every decision is reflected in the state's statistics and in the mood of the voters.
Multiplayer
Play with friends via Steam. Form a governing coalition together or face off from opposite sides of the chamber. The AI takes over the remaining parties, and if someone disconnects, their party doesn't vanish from the game.
Sandbox, editor and mods
The scenario editor lets you design your own state from the ground up: its political system, chambers, electoral system, parties, politicians and starting conditions. Sandbox mode lets you freely change support, laws, offices and time to explore "what if". The game's content - law articles, events, ideologies, interest groups, AI personalities and much more - is defined in plain data files, so modders can expand it without writing code. Share scenarios, maps and content packs with other players through the Steam Workshop.
