Dark Forest is a turn-based duel of hidden information for two players. Think Battleship, except your opponent is allowed to lie.
Hide your civilisation
Spend your starting budget placing celestial bodies on a secret 20x20 grid: space junk and satellites, rockets and moons, planets and space stations, nebulae, asteroid belts, stars, a ringworld, an alien artifact and a Dyson Sphere. Each has its own shape, cost and population, and many unlock powers the moment you place them.
Probe the dark
Take turns probing your rival's space. Every probe reports a hit, a near miss or nothing at all. Hit every cell of a body to colonise it; colonise everything your rival owns to win.
Trust nothing
The report you get is only what your opponent chose to tell you. A False Report turns a hit into a miss, or a miss into a hit. Report Scramble rewrites answers already given, and the Alien Artifact hides near misses. Keep track of what you think you know, and what you only think you know.
Twelve powers
Bodies grant powers when placed or colonised: row, column and sensor-burst scans, double probes, advanced probes that name what you hit, currency generation and multipliers, extra probes bought with currency, and more.
