In 1946, a mysterious fire sweeps through the Chen family's ancestral hall, destroying most of the genealogy passed down through generations. Only scattered fragments remain. With family members living far apart and little contact between its branches, rebuilding the family tree will be no simple task.
Your law firm receives an anonymous phone call. The caller offers a generous fee to reconstruct the Chen family tree.
But what secrets lie behind this commission?
Chuanjia is a genealogy deduction game set in Republican-era China. Play as a lawyer searching newspapers, case files, letters, and old photographs for evidence. Identify people, unravel marriages and blood ties, and piece together the Chen family tree.
Follow the clues into the past
A name, a signature, or a reference to a relative can open a new line of inquiry. Search for people and institutions, examine their records, and follow the leads within them to deepen your understanding of the family.
Finishing a document does not always mean you are finished with it. A later discovery may change the meaning of a sentence you have already read.
Compare evidence and trace relationships
Cross-check dates, forms of address, and signatures. Recognize faces in photographs and look for details that corroborate one another across different sources.
Reconstruct the Chen family tree
Match names to photographs and enter your deductions about identities and family relationships into the tree. Confirming one person's identity may provide the evidence you need to establish another connection.
Collect documents, record questions, and work at your own pace as you test theories and revise your conclusions.
