One painting in every room. One door is the truth.
A museum at night, and it will not let you leave. Every room hangs a single world-famous work on the wall you face as you come in — the Mona Lisa, The Starry Night, The Night Watch, The Great Wave. There is a door in each side wall, and hanging in the air before them, two words: REAL and FAKE.
Look at the painting. Then walk through the door you believe.
The right door leads on, down a corridor that holds its breath before it tells you so. The wrong door leads back to the first room, and every room after it is yours to judge again. It will tell you whether you were right. It will never tell you what was changed.
You already know these paintings. Don't you?
Forty masterpieces, each hung at its true size, from a woodblock print you could hold in two hands to canvases taller than the doors. Some are exactly as the museum received them. Some are not: a smile gone flat, a moon too full, a sea of fog that has quietly cleared. There is no zoom and no reference picture — only the work, what you remember of it, and the questions that come to you while you look.
