Pale Static is a cinematic first-person survival horror. It takes place in an isolated American town where riots broke out, then communications went down and all contact was lost.
You play as Rook, an operative entering the quarantine zone with a private response team. What started as a controlled rescue operation turns into a fight to get out alive. Residents behaving strangely, a broken town and things nobody can explain tear the operation apart.
EXPLORE THE TOWN
Search abandoned streets and buildings for supplies, documents and other ways through. You'll have to piece together what happened here yourself, from notes, traces and what your squad says.
FIGHT ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE TO
Every fight is dangerous. Ammo and medkits are scarce. Pick your position, get your gear ready and decide if the fight is worth it at all, and which weapon to use.
YOU'RE NOT ALONE
Your team isn't just voices on the radio. Bulldog, Doc and Ghost react to what you find, to danger and to your choices. The deeper you go, the less sure they are about what's going on.
CHOOSE YOUR ROUTE
Decide which way to go with your team: through the residential blocks or the administrative district. The routes meet deeper in the town, but each one has its own places, events, supplies and pieces of what happened here.
FACE SOMETHING WORSE THAN AN OUTBREAK
The outbreak is only what you see on the surface. Over time the infected give way to anomalies, tied to something far bigger than the people who tried to control it.
PLANNED AS A CHAPTER RELEASE
Pale Static is planned as a series of story chapters.
- Chapter 1 is in development and will come out first, in Early Access. It will take about 2.5-3 hours and tell a complete story, with its own beginning, climax and consequences.
- Later chapters will continue Rook’s story beyond the city—down into the valley and back to the source of the catastrophe.
The game is made by one developer, and I plan to bring in a few more people for key areas. Releasing in chapters keeps the scope realistic, and player feedback will shape the game as development goes on.
