I. Story Background

Beneath the facade of a prosperous age lies undercurrents of turmoil. The city of Luanyang is rife with unresolved injustices and hidden traps. You take on the identity of Xie Ning, a female scribe assigned to the county prison. On your very first day at the county yamen, you become entangled in the bizarre drowning death of Nanhu, the former county magistrate. Before this case can be closed, a string of brutal abdominal‑slaying murders erupts, and eerie rumors of vengeful ghosts spread across the city. Vital clues are scattered throughout the bustling streets, while deadly perils lurk both inside and outside the court. Trivial details can mean life or death. You must make hard choices between objective evidence and your inner conscience.
