The Crown sent its fleet. The Deep sent something worse.
Be a Pirate! is a tower defense game built for players who want their strategy to matter. Every map throws two fights at you at once — Crownsmen marching in on foot, Crown Sloops running the river — and you'll need towers built for both, positioned with real intent, to hold the line.
The Crown didn't just send its navy after the pirates of the Crimson Expanse — it made a bargain with something older than any flag. What starts as an ordinary war, Kingsmen on the beaches and Crown Sloops on the water, curdles the deeper you push: garrison commanders come back from the grave still giving orders, admirals return from the deep no longer entirely human, and something coiled and ancient has wrapped itself around more than one captured stronghold. Every map you defend belongs to one of your own captains, and every fight is personal — a crewmate still held prisoner, a debt owed, a grudge the Crown doesn't know will be repaid. Told through the voice of the captains as each battle unfolds, it's less "save the world" than "get my people back" — many coves, one crew, one impossible last stand at a time.
Command Both Land and Sea
The Crown attacks by land and by water, simultaneously, every wave. Land routes reroute live as you build, forcing you to adapt on the fly — while the river stays fixed and unblockable unless you get clever. Build a Bridge and you can turn that water into a second land lane... but Crown Sloops will pass right underneath it, unaffected. Every map is a puzzle in exactly where — and what — to build.
Meaningful elevation allows for a myriad of tower placements and results depending on the tower and the lands height.
A Crew, Not Just a Tower List
Recruit and equip 15 unique Pirate Captains, each with their own permanent bonuses and their own stake in the story — the active captain rides your ship into every battle. Explore an ocean of upgrade paths for each Captain, share what you like between each Captain.
Use your Pirate Raider to attack the forts and villages as they attempt to repel your forces.
A dozen towers with real personality — from the straightforward Cannon to the poison-cursed Voodoo Cauldron, the beam-focused Heliograph Battery, and The Commodore's Flag, which makes everything around it hit even harder.
Every tower grows in real time both visibly and functionally. Spend Doubloons mid-match on four distinct upgrade tracks per tower — Offense, Range, a tower-specific Specialty, and a unique Signature ability that changes how it fights.
Elemental damage matters. Physical, Fire, Ice, Electric, and Poison each have real resistances and weaknesses on the enemies you're facing — matching the right damage type to the right threat is all part of the strategy.
Thoughtful Action, Not Just Reflexes
This isn't a game where you spam towers and hope. Positioning, timing, and target priority genuinely matter — enemies reroute around what you build, bosses shrug off the wrong element and buckle to the right one, and every Doubloon you spend mid-match is a real decision with a real tradeoff. The deeper you go, the more the game asks you to actually think.
A Crown to Outlast, a Story to Uncover
Somewhere out past the charts lies the Crimson Expanse — and every stronghold you defend has its own story behind it. The Crown didn't come alone: behind its soldiers, bosses and warships wait things that were never quite human to begin with. A Drowned Lieutenant who commands the dead. A Leviathan coiled around a captive crew. A horror in the deep that vanishes the moment you take aim at it. Each map ties back to one of your own captains — a debt, a grudge, a crewmate still held prisoner — and every voiced narration pulls you a little further into why this fight is personal.
Endless Waters
Cleared every map? The Commodore never runs out of ships. Push into endless mode and see how many waves your crew can actually survive.
Build smart. Aim true. The Crown is patient — the Deep is not.
